Historical Research on Beaubassin, the Tantramar, and the Chignecto Isthmus
The Beaubassin Project is a study of the human history of the Beaubassin Research Station site, dating back to first habitation by aboriginal peoples and progressing through settlements by Acadians, Planters, Yorkshire settlers, and 19th- and 20th-century farmers. It was initiated by faculty members and students from the university’s Department of History and Classics as a component of broader research undertaken by members of the Acadia University community at and around the Beaubassin Research Station. The Beaubassin Project comprises a two-pronged, student-driven research effort related to the Tantramar marshes and their place in the larger Chignecto region. One strand of the project centres on a public history programme related to the history of Beaubassin, the Tantramar, and the Chignecto region, while the other is a more narrowly-focussed detailed scholarly research programme, examining issues such as community resiliency, environmental change through time, and the political, social, and cultural history of the Chignecto Isthmus.
